Colorado eliminated its seven-year experience recency window in April 2026. Its own out-of-state pages had not been updated to say so five weeks after the law took effect.
Colorado has enacted the Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact (2023). Enacting it and opening it are different things, and they vary by state — Pennsylvania has published the list of licences it accepts and reviews applications under Compact rules; Colorado publishes no compact guidance at all. The act allows the state department of education (CDE) to issue a professional teacher license to a teacher with at least 3 years of successful teaching experience in another state or country for which CDE has granted reciprocity. The act eliminates the requirement that an applicant have the successful teaching experience within the previous 7 years.

Sequencing is the whole point here. The 30-day window starts when CDE RECEIVES your background check, not when you decide to apply, and missing it means paying for new fingerprints. The long-lead items — official transcripts from every institution attended, the approved program verification form from your preparing institution, and the signed TEA letter if you came through an alternative route — all have to be in hand BEFORE you get printed.

Anyone who completes a preparation program outside Colorado, including in-state residents completing an online program provided by an entity outside Colorado.
This catches people who do not think of themselves as out-of-state applicants at all, and routes them into the approved-programme-verification requirement below.

The interim authorization allows the candidate to work in Colorado schools while providing a year's time to prepare for and take the required exam(s) or demonstrate content knowledge via the multiple measures options. Underlying rule: 1 CCR 301-37 2.03(3) requires that you hold or qualify to hold the associated licence in the state of preparation for Colorado to recognise the programme.

Passing scores on each content exam below: Praxis 5205 (159) or an approved Multiple Measures submission for Teaching Reading AND Praxis 5903 (157) elementary math or an approved Multiple Measures submission for Elementary Math
Compare Mathematics – Secondary, which can be met by a bachelor’s degree in maths OR 24 semester hours OR one exam. Elementary offers no degree or coursework route at all: it is two exams, or two Multiple Measures submissions, or a mixture. That makes the Colorado interim authorization — one year, renewable once — more likely to be the practical entry route for an elementary teacher than for a secondary maths one.

Traps

The combination of the work experience you list and the license copies you provide is what determines "licensed experience." What is not published
What is unresolved: SB26-126's compact-state process was reportedly in effect from 12 August 2026, but CDE has published no guidance on how to use it, no annual endorsement-correspondence table, and no mention of the compact anywhere on its out-of-state checklist. Whether the 30-day route is operable in practice, and how an applicant invokes it, cannot be answered from the published record. Immaterial to a Texas applicant, who is not from a compact state; material to anyone moving from one of the 15 member states. Confirm with CDE Educator Licensing, (720) 739-3304.

Where the 24-semester-hour route is used, each course needs a letter grade of B− or better, a unique course number and awarded credits; professional development courses and Pass/Fail are not accepted. Colorado separately issues Mathematics – Middle School (grades 6–8).
